One of the immediate benefits of massage is a feeling of deep relaxation and calm. This occurs because massage prompts the release of endorphins – the brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) that produce feelings of wellbeing.

Levels of stress hormones, such as adrenalin, cortisol and norepinephrine, are also reduced. Studies indicate that high levels of stress hormones impair the immune system.

Some of the physical benefits of massage include:

  • reduced muscle tension
  • improved circulation
  • stimulation of the lymphatic system
  • reduction of stress hormones
  • relaxation
  • increased joint mobility and flexibility
  • improved skin tone
  • improved recovery of soft tissue injuries
  • heightened mental alertness
  • reduced anxiety and depression

Something comfortable is recommended however underwear is a must. No underwear = No massage

Drink plenty of water to flush toxins from the body and to relieve muscle soreness.
Apply heat packs to the area, take a warm shower or soak in a bath with Epsom salts.

Stretch the day after the massage. Gentle exercise is also recommended.

Alcohol consumption is not recommended afterwards as this dehydrates the body. Do not participate in strenuous activity (heavy lifting, boxing, running) as this will reduce the benefits of the massage of up to 24 hours after treatment.
